5.8 How do plate tectonics and sedimentary rocks connect?

• The basin in the eastern U.S. was a marine environment, meaning that a sea was present in much of what is today dry land.
• The eastern edge shows evidence of a shoreline.
• Conglomerates indicate fast-moving streams, and include volcanic and plutonic fragments suggesting erosion of igneous rocks near a subduction zone.
