• Most of the volume of atoms is attributed to the electron cloud which is:
• less dense than the nucleus
• denser close to the nucleus and less dense farther out from it
• So imaging electrons from a TEM are blocked more in towards the atom's center than at the edge
• This leads to the "fuzzy" imaging
