• Minerals have observed or easily measured physical properties, some of which are more diagnostic than others for a given mineral.
• The principal properties are: color, luster, streak, hardness, cleavage (or fracture), specific gravity, and external crystal form.
• Other properties: Magnetism, Reaction to hydrochloric acid, Malleability, Double refraction,Taste, Smell, Elasticity
