15.5 How do we know ... how to map mass-movement hazards?
- Mass movements are clearly hazardous, so it is necessary to be able to assess the risks to lives and property from this potential hazard.
- Scientists must therefore combine data of slope angles, joints, faults, and fracture; precipitation patterns; earthquake potential; vegetation patterns; weathering data; and more. Each must be weighted and combined in a meaningful way.
