Accretion scenario 2

If a continent follows subducting lithosphere into a trench, the buoyant continent cannot subduct and instead collides with the arc on the overriding plate. A new subduction zone forms that faces the opposite direction. The arc transfers from one plate to the other and becomes part of that continent.
