- The age of lithosphere depends on the rate new lithosphere is created at divergent boundaries.
- Oceans tend to be shallower if the average age decreases, like when new mid-ocean ridges form.
- When Pangea rifted and the Atlantic and Indian Ocean ridges formed, sea level rose. Later, as the basins aged, it went back down.
