13.4 Why does sea level change?

Isostasy affects sea level. As lithosphere cools as it moves away from mid-ocean ridges it contracts and becomes more dense, and older ocean crust is thicker. Isostatic principles require that the crust adjust to these changes. So changes in lithosphere age affect ocean depth.
