- Isostatic adjustment causes earthquakes
- Isostatic movement of crust causes stress
- Stress in rocks from glacial rebound tends to be less than tectonic stress but can reactivate older, preexisting faults
- The New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-1812 are thought to be due, at least in part, to glacial rebound stress
- Relatively small stresses, such as the mass of water behind dams, could trigger old fault systems
