13.3 How does isostasy relate to active geologic processes?

Active geologic processes such as erosion and deformation may effectively add or subtract mass from a given column of crust. As such, isostatic principles dictate that the crust adjust accordingly to a new stable position similar in fashion to the example below in Fig. 13.9.
