- A convergent boundary along the west coast of N. America from the mid-Paleozoic to mid-Cenozoic caused faulting and folding, intrusion, and crystallization of batholiths, volcanoes, and formation of mineral deposits in the western U.S.
- Relative plate motions changed on the western U.S. boundary ~26 million years ago. Subduction continues offshore AK, WA, OR and NW CA, but transform boundaries formed elsewhere.
