- We see then from the lava lamp that density varies due to heat input of the two liquids.
- These liquids also differ in viscosity or resistance to flow.
- Conduction in this system is also slow, otherwise the top and bottom would be the same temperature.
- Note this system requires all three types of energy transfer:
- Conduction at the base
- Convection up through the column
- Radiation at the top to lose heat
